The Bradford Reform Jewish Burial Ground
Sophia Lambert
Who were the Jews of Bradford? Whose are those magnificent headstones? Were there Jews in the Union Workhouse? Hidden histories of the Bradford Jewish
community
Sophia Lambert is a second-year PhD student at the University of Leeds and is currently the researcher and archivist for the Leeds Jewish Living History Project. She has worked for several heritage organisations and in the University of Leeds Special Collections and Galleries.
Sophia runs an Instagram account called Leeds_Hidden_Heritage. The
account explores the histories of Leeds’ long forgotten locations, people and events, and has previously featured locations linked to the Leeds Jewish community.
Sophia’s research interests are in modern Jewish history, Jewish cemeteries, migration histories, and housing history in Leeds. Her PhD thesis examines Bradford’s Reform Jewish Cemetery and its headstones to explore
Jewish identity and the community’s attitudes towards death and commemoration.
