After a career in medicine, as a Professor of Medicine and Dean of Manchester’s Medical School Leslie Turnberg was elected President of the Royal College of Physicians in 1992. Given a Peerage by Tony Blair in 2000 to speak on health matters in the Lords he has increasingly spoken about Israel and the Middle East. He has published three books on Israel, including Beyond the Balfour Declaration, Mandate; the Palestine Crucible, 1919-1939 and An Unreasonable Man; Pinchas Rutenberg, The Russian Revolutionary who Electrified Palestine. Most recently, in May 2024, he published Patients First; How to Save the NHS.
