Clive Lawton is the CEO of the Commonwealth Jewish Council (www.cjc.org.uk), was the co-founder of the learning movement, Limmud, which
he helped to spread all over the world, a former High school Head, a governor of the Metropolitan Police, a founding trustee of JW3, an NHS hospital Chair and Deputy Director of Liverpool's education authority. He works around the world as an educational consultant, has published over a dozen books, has four degrees to his name in widely diverse subjects and sits as a Presiding Justice on the Wiltshire Bench and chairs NHS dispute tribunals. He was awarded an OBE in 2016 for his services to
education and the Jewish community.
The Commonwealth Jewish Council was formed in 1980 and plays an active part in Commonwealth circles. But surely the Commonwealth is yesterday's news. Why are any Jews bothering with it? Surprisingly though, the Commonwealth
is actually growing and countries are lining up to join! Clive will try to explain why and tell a little of the wonderful communities that are dotted around the globe under the umbrella of the CJC...
