John Fieldsend, BEM
What's different about Kinder? What about the parents?
My story.
Born in 1931 in Czechoslovakia, John Fieldsend lived in Dresden until he was 6 years old when he had to flee, eventually being sent with a Kindertransport to be fostered in the UK by a Christian family. He attended a Jewish boarding school - one of 14 schools he attended in 3 countries. Is this a record?
John studied electrical engineering, later turning to theology and gaining a BD at Kings College, University of London. He is ordained in the Anglican Church.
John is now a volunteer with the National Holocaust Centre and the Holocaust Educational Trust speaking in schools, U3As, churches, synagogues and elsewhere. He was awarded the BEM for his work in combating antisemitism, and whist in the Czech Republic last year he was awarded the Moravian-Silesian Order of Merit for speaking with 1500 school students.
