Britain’s Jewish History in small communities

Does Britain have a Jewish history dating from the Middle Ages? How does this history relate to current events in the Middle East? Is it relevant to current rising antisemitism?
Why are there Jews living in almost every borough in the UK? Why are there more Jewish cemeteries than synagogues?
Ed Horwich is Chief Executive and creator of the Jewish Small Communities Network. He is a commentator and activist for small Jewish communities in the UK. He also advises fellow organisations, statutory bodies, civil servants and others about Jewish small communities.
Ed was raised in Southport, on the Lancashire seaside, a town whose Jewish population of 4,500 in the 1950-60’s had declined to 300 by the late 1990s.
By taking a look at how deep the Jewish connections go, we can begin to understand why 65,000 Jews (25% of the total UK Jewish population) don’t
live in London, Manchester or Leeds.
We shall see how people and communities from all around the UK have contributed to Britain’s Jewish history and impacted upon attitudes and events around the world.
