Professor Alan Silman is currently Professor of Musculoskeletal Health at Oxford University and Senior Fellow of Green Templeton College. He is an epidemiologist and rheumatologist. He was Director of the UK's Arthritis Research Epidemiology Unit at Manchester University from 1998-2006 and was more recently the Medical Director of the
research charity Arthritis Research UK. Alan has written a number of books and over 500 research articles. During the Covid-19 outbreak he focused on communicating the complex medical and scientific issues arising from that virus to a wider audience via his weekly blog. He has a particular commitment to supporting younger investigators in developing their scientific writing skills and learning how to
succeed in achieving research grant awards.
