The Dreyfus Affair
Creina Mansfield
The Virtue of Disloyalty
Writers and the Dreyfus Affair
Dr Creina Mansfield is a writer and teacher. She taught in Manchester University’s CCE department for ten years and now devises and teaches courses for the public. She has degrees from Cambridge and Manchester Universities. She has published works of fiction for young people which have been translated into French, German, Portuguese, Italian and
Danish. Her special interests are the modern novel, the theory of narrative structure and film.
In her talk about the Dreyfus Affair she will be asking: to whom or what should one give one's loyalty? A country, an institution, a beloved-- or perhaps, oneself? Would anyone risk all they had for an abstract concept, such as
'justice'?
