Nazi Princesses: The Wagner Women (Part Two)
Steve Millward
Richard Wagner was a rabid antisemite Wagner's women and Nazi ideology Cosima: 'the Queen of Bayreuth'
We are delighted to welcome Steve Millward's return to continue his spine-chilling revelations about the Nazi women in Wagner' orbit.
Steve Millward has been
teaching adult education courses since 1986 for a range of institutions including Manchester University. He has also presented Radio Manchester's jazz programme, worked as Radio 5's 'pop pundit' and was the jazz critic of the Manchester Evening News from 2003 to 2006. He is the author of four books including the acclaimed Music And Politics trilogy.
Richard Wagner's antisemitism was institutionalised by his second wife, Cosima Liszt, to the extent that by the mid-1920s the annual Bayreuth Festival of his music had become a showcase for Nazism. Adolf Hitler became a frequent visitor both to the Festival and to the Wagners' home. His intimacy with the family confirmed both his personal and ideological relationship with, in particular, the women of the family, which was to have
consequences for all concerned.
